How to Use Your SVG & PNG Files

Step-by-step tutorials for using your downloaded files with cutting machines and printers.

Once you’ve downloaded and unzipped your files, you’re ready to start creating! Choose your machine or method below.

Using SVG Files with Cricut

For Cricut Maker, Explore, Joy, and Venture

1

Open Design Space

Open Cricut Design Space on your computer or in your web browser. Log into your account.

2

Upload SVG

Click “Upload” → “Upload Image” → Browse to your unzipped SVG file → Select it → Click “Save”

3

Insert into Canvas

Click “Insert Images” → Your design appears on the canvas. Resize if needed.

4

Attach Layers

If design has multiple parts, select all → Click “Attach” (bottom right) to keep aligned.

5

Make It

Click “Make It” → Select material → Load mat → Press flashing button → Machine cuts!

Pro Tips for Cricut Users

Always use “Attach” for multi-layer designs to prevent separation. Save your uploaded designs to “My Projects” for future use. Use “Flatten” only for print-then-cut projects. Make test cuts on scrap material first.

Using Files with Silhouette

For Silhouette Cameo, Portrait, and Curio

Which File Format Should I Use?

Basic Edition (Free): Use DXF files (SVG not supported)
Designer Edition or Higher: Use SVG files for best results

1

Open Silhouette Studio

Launch Silhouette Studio software on your computer.

2

Import File

File → Open → Browse to your SVG or DXF file → Click “Open”

3

Resize if Needed

Design may import very large or small. Use corner handles to resize while holding Shift key.

4

Group Elements

Select all elements → Right-click → Group (keeps parts together)

5

Send to Cut

Click Send tab → Select material → Adjust settings → Load mat → Send to cut

Using PNG Files for Printing & Sublimation

For inkjet printers, sublimation printers, and print-and-cut projects

Regular Printing (Print-and-Cut)

Step 1: Insert PNG

In Design Space or Silhouette Studio, insert the PNG file as an image.

Step 2: Flatten (Cricut)

Select image → Flatten → Machine will print then cut around it

Step 3: Print & Cut

Load printer paper → Print → Let dry → Load into machine → Cut

Sublimation Printing

Open PNG file in your design software (like Canva, Photoshop, or Silhouette Studio). Resize to fit your substrate (mug, t-shirt, etc.). Print using sublimation printer on sublimation paper. Apply to substrate using heat press at correct temperature and time. Let cool and remove paper.

Important for Sublimation

PNG files have transparent backgrounds perfect for sublimation. Don’t enlarge beyond original size or quality degrades. Mirror your image before printing for transfers. Use only sublimation ink and paper.

Using SVG Files with Heat Transfer Vinyl

For making custom t-shirts and apparel

1

Upload & Size

Upload SVG to Design Space or Silhouette Studio. Resize to fit shirt placement.

2

Mirror Image

IMPORTANT: Flip/mirror your design before cutting HTV.

3

Cut HTV

Place HTV shiny side down on mat. Select “Iron-On” material. Cut.

4

Weed Design

Remove excess vinyl around design with weeding tool. Keep design on clear carrier sheet.

5

Apply Heat

Place design on shirt. Cover with protective sheet. Press with heat press or iron (follow HTV instructions for temp/time).

6

Peel Carrier

Let cool (or peel warm, depending on HTV type). Remove carrier sheet. Done!

HTV Tips

ALWAYS mirror your design before cutting. Use the correct temperature for your HTV type. Press firmly with even pressure. Wait for full cooling before washing. Turn shirts inside out when washing.
