File Troubleshooting Guide

Solutions to common problems with SVG and PNG files.

Problem: File Won’t Open

Symptom: Double-clicking does nothing or shows an error

Solution 1: Unzip the File First

Files come in a ZIP folder. You MUST extract/unzip before using:

Windows: Right-click ZIP file → “Extract All”
Mac: Double-click ZIP file (auto-extracts)

Solution 2: Open From Within Your Software

Don’t double-click the file. Instead:
Cricut: Open Design Space → Upload → Browse for file
Silhouette: Open Studio → File → Open → Select file

Solution 3: Check File Extension

Make sure you’re using the right format:
Cricut: Use SVG files
Silhouette Designer Edition: Use SVG files
Silhouette Basic Edition: Use DXF files (SVG won’t work!)

Solution 4: File May Be Corrupted

If download was interrupted, file may be incomplete. Re-download the file from your email or account. If problem persists, contact us for a replacement.

Problem: File Won’t Import to Software

Symptom: Upload fails, shows error, or nothing appears

Solution 1: Convert the File

Sometimes SVG files need to be re-encoded. Go to Convertio.co/svg-svg → Upload your SVG → Convert → Download new version

Solution 2: Try a Different Format

Your download includes multiple formats. If SVG won’t work, try DXF instead (especially for Silhouette), try PNG for print-and-cut projects, or try EPS if using professional software.

Solution 3: Update Your Software

Outdated software may not recognize newer file formats. Update to the latest version of Cricut Design Space or Silhouette Studio.

Solution 4: Clear Browser Cache

If using Cricut Design Space in browser, clear your cache and cookies, then try again.

Problem: File Won’t Cut Properly

Symptom: Cuts are wrong, misaligned, or incomplete

Solution 1: Attach All Layers (Cricut)

If design has multiple parts: Select all elements on canvas, click “Attach” button (bottom right). This keeps everything aligned during cutting.

Solution 2: Machine Calibration

Your machine may need calibration. Cricut: Settings → Calibration. Silhouette: Test cut on Studio → Calibration

Solution 3: Mat and Blade Issues

Check these common issues: Clean your cutting mat (restick if too worn), check blade sharpness (replace if dull), adjust blade depth for your material, make sure material is firmly adhered to mat.

Solution 4: Adjust Cut Settings

Select correct material setting in your software. If cuts are too light or too deep, adjust pressure settings.

Problem: Missing Layers or Elements

Symptom: Design looks incomplete or parts are missing

Solution 1: Check Layers Panel

Elements may be hidden or off-canvas. Check layers panel for hidden elements, zoom out to see if parts are outside visible area, click “Show All” or similar option.

Solution 2: Elements May Be White

If background is white, white elements are invisible. Change canvas background color to see them.

Solution 3: Re-import the File

Delete and re-upload the design. Sometimes first import doesn’t capture all elements.

Problem: Quality or Size Issues

Symptom: Design looks pixelated, blurry, or wrong size

Solution 1: Use Correct File Format

For cutting, always use SVG (or DXF), never PNG. SVG = Vector (infinite resize, no pixelation). PNG = Raster (fixed size, gets pixelated when enlarged)

Solution 2: Resize Properly

When resizing: Hold Shift key to maintain proportions, don’t stretch disproportionately, lock aspect ratio in software settings.

Solution 3: For Printing (PNG)

Our PNG files are 300 DPI (print quality). Don’t enlarge beyond original size or quality will degrade.
